Two Earn Honors At Civil Air Patrol Gala

The Jamestown Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, which operates as an auxiliary detachment of the United States Air Force, took home some major awards at their regional military ball. During the Gala Event, congratulations went to Cadet Captain Amelia Matteson-Garza for being named the Cadet of the Year 2025. She resides in Frewsburg. Her hard work put her over all cadets from the Western New York Group of squadrons.

Cadet Finn Johnson of Lily Dale was promoted to Cadet Captain receiving the Amelia Earhart Award, from Major Brian Wells, Group Commander. Johnson also was given the Western New York Flight School Scholarship, a prestigious award that funds parts of a cadet’s training focused on piloting aircraft.

Jamestown Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron as a whole, received an achievement award for participation in the High-Altitude Balloon Challenge and recognition for the National Quality Cadet Unit Award and Aerospace Education Achievement Award.

The Military Ball was held in Buffalo and was attended by 9 separate squadrons from a three-county area. The Civil Air Patrol in Jamestown is open to all qualified candidates.
