A long-time volunteer for Chautauqua County has been honored for his service.

At the March meeting of the Chautauqua County Legislature, the county recognized Dr. Thomas A. Erlandson of Frewsburg for his dedication and decades of service to the community.

Earlandson has devoted over 40 years to improving the lives of Chautauqua County residents through his work on numerous boards, commissions, and legislative roles. His service includes:

– South & Center Chautauqua Lake Sewer District Board (2012-2026)

– Chautauqua County Board of Health (11 years)

– Parks Commission (14 years)

– Chautauqua County Legislature – serving from 1986-1989 and again 2012-2013, contributing to committees including Agriculture and Economic Development, Environmental, Human Services, and Public Facilities.

Earlandson’s commitment to public health and the environment has been evident since the 1960s. Notably, in 1964 he conducted a house-to-house environmental health study along the Chautauqua Lake shore, helping lay the groundwork for public sewer initiatives. He continued these efforts in 1982, leading studies that directly contributed to the development of the South and Center Chautauqua Lake Sewer Districts.

In recognition of his decades of service, County Executive PJ Wendel and the Chautauqua County Legislature presented Erlandson with a commendation.

“Tom’s tireless work has made a real difference in the quality of life for residents across the County,” said Wendel. “His legacy of service and leadership sets an example for all of us.”
