Members of the Elizabeth Warner Marvin House recently celebrated the organization’s 75th anniversary and honored aviation pioneer Lucile M. Wright.
Held during Women’s History Month, the luncheon featured a presentation on Wright’s life and legacy. Guest speaker Dennis Webster, who retired from WJTN in 2024 and now serves as curator of the Lucile M. Wright Air Museum, delivered the keynote address.
Webster outlined Wright’s path from an early interest in aviation to becoming one of the region’s most accomplished pilots. During World War II, she served as the only woman courier pilot in Western New York, logging thousands of flight hours.
He also highlighted her involvement with The Ninety-Nines, founded by Amelia Earhart, and her efforts to encourage young women to pursue aviation.
Organizers said the event reflects the Marvin House’s mission to honor women’s achievements, promote education and strengthen community connections as it marks its 75th year.
