Jamestown Police Department’s SWAT Team Receives Federal Grant

The Jamestown Police Department has been awarded $75,000 through the Tactical Team Grant Program to support its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.

The funding is intended to address operational needs by improving equipment, expanding specialized training and ensuring team members are better prepared for high-risk incidents and extended deployments. The grant will provide resources to upgrade and modernize the gear and equipment used by the SWAT Team, while also supporting specialized training opportunities to enhance skills and readiness.

The Jamestown Police Department’s SWAT Team responds to complex and potentially dangerous incidents, including hostage situations, armed confrontations and other critical emergencies. The grant-funded investments will improve operational readiness, enhance officer safety and strengthen the team’s ability to effectively serve and protect the community.

“We are very pleased to receive the Tactical Team Grant Project award this year,” said Jamestown Police Chief Scott Forster. “The department has applied for this grant since becoming a certified team in 2021, recognizing the important role this funding plays in improving the capabilities and safety of our SWAT Team. With this funding, our team will gain access to training not otherwise available, allowing them to continue improving across multiple areas of tactics. This will strengthen operations, enhance safety, and improve our response to critical incidents. We will also be able to outfit our team with outdoor attire to better support operations in the ever-changing New York weather. Thank you to the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services for selecting Jamestown for this grant funding.”
