Area Trombonist To Perform At JCC Jazz Fest

Doug Schutte, area financial advisor and owner of Summit Wealth Management Inc., will be the featured jazz trombone soloist with Jazz Crossing at Jamestown Community College’s annual Jazz Fest on Friday, April 10, at 7 p.m.

Jazz Crossing is a jazz combo that also includes John Cross on woodwinds, Jay Hagen on trumpet, Tyler Nelson on vibes, Marc Cousins on bass, Lily Zappie on guitar, Craig Ridgway on drums and Jim Madden on piano. The featured jazz ensemble will perform many jazz classics including Freddie Freeloader (Miles Davis), Ain’t Misbehaving (Fats Waller), Work Song (Nat Adderly),Sister Sadie (Horace Silver), Mr. Magic (Grover Washington, Jr.), Hard Times (Fathead Newman), Summertime (George Gershwin), and Watermelon Man (Herbie Hancock).

Schutte is an active trombone performer in the area with Dem Bones and Chautauqua Big Band Swing. He plays jazz brunches at Wicked Warrens and several local jazz concert series at Big Inlet Brewery, First Covenant Church, Christ First Methodist Church and the Roger Tory Peterson Institute.

“It’s a privilege to perform with such a fine group of jazz musicians and in the Jamestown community which is so full of outstanding artistic and musical talent,” Schutte said.

The free concert at the Scharmann Theatre on the JCC campus will open with the High School All-Star Big Band performing After You’ve Gone, Fat Cat, Blue Bossa and Into The Doghouse. Featured high school musicians include Kedan Alessi, Rya Guiffre, Ella Garrison, Sydney Canfield on alto saxophone, Mahonri Potter on tenor saxophone, Dante West and Khloe Duffy on trumpet, Lily Zappie on guitar and Alexis Cross, Liam Baldensperger on drums. Neil Flory, JCC Music department chair, will narrate the program.
