4-H Youth Learn Resume, Interview Skills

4-H youth are pictured participating in a workshop designed to build a resume, cover letter and interviewing skills.

Local youth ages 12 and older participated in a hands‒on 4‒H career readiness workshop designed to help them begin building essential tools for future success in college, the workforce and leadership roles.

The workshop was taught by Rose Carr, a longtime educator of English, public speaking and journalism. With years of experience helping students develop communication and professional skills, she introduced youth participants to the basics of professional resume building, including guidance on formatting, identifying strengths, highlighting skills and choosing meaningful experiences to include.

Youth also learned tips for writing a clear, well organized cover letter tailored to the job or opportunity for which they are applying.

Youth who were interested also had the opportunity to take part in optional mock interviews with the help of 4‒H volunteers Shannon Carpenter, Anna Crowell and Sue Overend, who acted as interviewers. Participants practiced answering common interview questions, learned strategies to communicate effectively, learned how to present themselves professionally in real‒world settings and were offered constructive feedback and encouragement as they practiced building confidence and presenting themselves.

Starting at $3.50/week.
