4 H Youth Learn Leather Crafting
Local 4‒H youth recently took part in a hands‒on leather crafting educational workshop, where they learned the basics of working with leather while creating unique, handmade items of their own.
The workshop focused on learning by doing, giving participants the chance to begin to explore leather crafting techniques. Youth were able to express their creativity while developing practical skills such as patience, focus, and attention to detail.
The workshop was led by Nancy Johnson, a longtime 4‒H volunteer and leader of the Country Critters 4-H Club, who shared her knowledge and passion for leather crafting with the group. Her guidance helped youth build confidence as they worked through each step of their projects.
Participants are encouraged to bring their completed leather items to 4‒H Fair Evaluation Day in July, where projects prepared by 4-H youth throughout the year will be evaluated and awarded ribbons. The items will then be displayed in the 4-H Building during fair week, allowing youth to showcase their work to family, friends, and the community.
Workshops like this highlight how 4‒H combines hands‒on learning with skilled volunteers to help youth try new things, build life skills, and take pride in their accomplishments.
