Hostesses were Cynthia Sorenson and Connie Short. President Brenda Fitzgerald welcomed everyone. Birgitta Hofert led the invocation. Birgitta Hofert, Norden Women’s Club member, gave a presentation on the history of Jamestown and the Norden Women’s Club. Members dressed up with many stylish hats from the era.
In 1914, the Norden Club was created, with the wives serving as the auxiliary. The Norden Women’s Club adopted its bylaws in 1916. The Norden Women’s Club advocated in the adoption of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920, allowing women to vote.
Notable events were taking the children from the G.A. Children’s Home to the Shea’s Play House in 1923, and the wife of Jamestown Mayor Samuel Carlson, becoming a member in 1923. Hofert was thanked for the research she did for the presentation, and Maria Malmstrom presented her with a box of Aladdin chocolate candies, directly from Sweden.
