Benjamin Prescott Chapter NSDAR Holds Meeting

The Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently held its first meeting of 2026 with 11 members present.

The Opening Ceremony was conducted by Regent Myra Johnston and Chaplin Deborah Cenni. The President General’s Message was about the 250th celebration in Washington. Chaplin Deborah Cenni and Registrar Barbara Pietro gave a report about delivering the donations from the chapter’s Christmas party to the maternity ward at the Buffalo VA Hospital and the warm welcome they received.

Johnston asked if anyone was interested in filling the vacancies of treasurer or vice regent. Cheryl Smith accepted to finish the term of treasurer. Elizabeth Sedlmayer seconded the nomination and the vote was unanimous.

A discussion on America 250 and the chapter’s celebrations was held. Possibilities include planting a liberty tree, hosting a project or display. Barbara Pietro and Elizabeth Sedlmayer volunteered to head the committee.

The Patriot Minute was presented by Sandra Haskin on her Patriot, Barzillai Ellis. He served one month and four days on a secret mission at the Battle of Rhode Island.

Johnston reported on Mercy Otis Warren, a political writer, poet and propagandist of the Revolutionary War. She often satirized the Tories. Johnston also presented a Revolutionary Minute highlighting events that happened this month in the Revolutionary War.

The next meeting will be on April 2 at the Barker Library in Fredonia at 4 p.m.
