Water Main Break Affects Downtown Friday

A water main break affected downtown Jamestown Friday morning into the afternoon.

Board of Public Utilities Communications Coordinator, Becky Robbins said the break occurred on Third Street and Spring Street in downtown Jamestown, but by Friday afternoon it was believed to be complete.

“I believe that the repair is complete and the employees currently are back-filling the hole they had to dig to find the broken water line,” Robbins told the Post-Journal Friday afternoon.

Robbins added that water main breaks can occur when temperatures swing from warm to cold or from cold to warm. As earth temperatures fluctuate, the ground shifts, sometimes cutting into water lines and causing pipes to break.

“Water main breaks can cause discolored water and fluctuating water pressure,” Robbins said. “Discolored water clears in approximately 12-24 hours.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
