A residence at 302 Allen St., was damaged by fire Thursday.
At about 10:30 p.m., Jamestown Fire Department crews responded to a 911 call of a fire at a vacant and condemned 2 1/2-story structure.
Upon arrival, firefighters began operations to battle a fully-involved first-floor blaze that was spreading to the second floor. Firefighters quickly found hyrdrants and began using hoses to extinguish the blaze. Crews battle flames for more than nine hours. The structure, JFD officials said, sustained severe fire damage throughout which necessitated emergency demolition with continued fire extinguishment until about 9 a.m. Friday.
Prior to the incident, JFD learned that all utilities were previously disconnected.
On-scene fire investigation was not possible due to the severity of damage to the building. At presstime, officials said the cause of the blaze was unknown.
Officials added that 11 off-duty firefighters were called in to support the fire incident and attend other 911 calls in the city. Firefighters were rotated to and from the fire scene due to the below-freezing weather conditions. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries due to icy and slippery fire ground operations.
