Ripley man charged in sex abuse case

RIPLEY — A town man is facing charges after an alleged sex offense.

Around 1 p.m. Feb. 12, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of the incident. Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol and Criminal Investigators conducted a preliminary investigation that led to the identification of a suspect in William E. Carter, 45. It is alleged that Carter, being 21 years or older, subjected a person less that 13years of age to sexual contact.

Investigators located Carter at a residence in Mayville, where he was taken into custody without incident. Carter was transported to the Sheriff’s Office for processing, and later booked into the Chautauqua County Jail pending CAP arraignment. Carter was charged with first-degree sexual abuse and forcible touching. He was held on $50,000 and $100,000 bail and will answer for his charges in the Chautauqua County Supreme Court.

“The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office remains unwavering in its commitment to protecting children and holding those who harm them accountable,” the news release said. “Crimes against children will not be tolerated in our community. Those found responsible will be identified, arrested, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
