A mid-morning blaze was doused quickly Wednesday by Jamestown Fire Department crews.
According to Battalion Chief Shawn Schilling, no residents were injured and all were out of the building safely. Schilling said two cats were rescued.
Schilling said the fire broke out around 9:22 a.m. on the first floor and was contained to it.
“We had most of the fire knocked down within the first 15 minutes,” Schilling noted.
Schilling noted that a 911 caller alerted crews at about 9:22 a.m. to the house fire at 93 Barker St., and all first-floor occupants evacuated the building. Crews arrived and noticed heavy black smoke, and fire coming from the 2 ½-story residence. The fire extended from the front porch to the front porch roof.
Firefighters also searched the second floor and it was clear. After 45 minutes, crews on scene declared the fire was extinguished. Schilling said the fire investigator determined the cause was accidental electrical due to an overloaded power strip. The house is damaged and is uninhabitable, Schilling said.
The battalion chief added that 12 off-duty firefighters were called in to support the fire incident and attend other 911 calls in the city.
