Ripley takes actions on plant, properties

Town of Ripley Council members passed a resolution at their meeting in December increasing the bond anticipation note for improvements to the wastewater treatment facility from $1,838,050 to $1.9 million.

The resolution stated that “due to increases in certain project and construction-related costs, the estimated maximum cost of the project has increased from $1,838,050 to $1,900,000 . . . based in part on the evidence said at the aforesaid public hearing, it is hereby found and determined that it is in the public interest to undertake the project hereinabove described at the estimated maximum cost of $1.9. million”

The original project was approved on Sept. 12, 2019. The improvements serve Sewer District 1, including the chlorine contact tank, oxidation ditch, electrical systems, clarifiers, pumping systems and replacement of the gravity sewer main under the railroad tracks along Shaver Street.

Prior to the regular meeting, the board held a public hearing on the increase. However, no one made any comments. By a subsequent resolution, council members authorized the town to issue a bond resolution for up to $1,838,050.

In another matter, the board authorized Town Supervisor Laura K. Pless to sign all the necessary documents for the sale of the property on 135 W. Main St. to Alton and Cindy Crossman for $15,500.

In a separate resolution, council members authorized the sale of the property of William Reese, located at 137 W. Main St. for $13,000, with all net proceeds to be deposited in the Town of Ripley’s general fund. The town had entered a contract for the sale of the property on Oct. 1.

Council members also approved Wendell as an independent engineer to review building plans for compliance with the state Fire Prevention and Building Code.

The 2025 year-end meeting was set for Dec. 30 at 10:15 a.m. Also, the 2026 organizational meeting was set for Jan. 8 at 6 p.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
