MHA Recognizes Outstanding Volunteer, Announces Hat And Glove Drive
At the Mental Health Association in Chautauqua County’s October recovery luncheon, volunteer Wing was recognized for its important work at the Dunkirk recovery center, most recently organizing the annual Art in Recovery exhibit.
Monthly recovery luncheons at the Mental Health Association in Chautauqua County (MHA) are an opportunity to recognize significant milestones participants have achieved and to thank volunteers for the invaluable services they provide.
At the MHA’s October luncheon, Executive Director Michael Nordin gave special recognition to Wing, who facilitates the Art in Recovery group on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in the MHA’s north county recovery center. The outstanding volunteer was responsible for Dunkirk’s recent art show that also included pieces from the Jamestown group that meets at 2 p.m. on Wednesdays. Both the Dunkirk event and the September show in Jamestown were made possible in part by support from the United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County Projects Pool Grants Program. New participants are welcome to either group.
With the approach of cold weather, the MHA is conducting a Hat and Glove Drive through Thursday, Nov. 20. Donations of new hats and gloves for men or women (no children’s items or other clothing, please) are appreciated at the Jamestown location between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The luncheon was prepared and served by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Jamestown: Pam and Gary Lucas, Jean Rolls, Gail Smith and Betsy Trusel. Volunteer Becky Hemmis offered the blessing before the meal.
MHA recovery luncheons are open to anyone at 1 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month. Like all MHA services, the luncheons are free.
