Unitarian Church To Host Halloween Book Giveaway Today

There will be free books for all ages as well as treats and crafts at Halloween Read and Treat® at the Unitarian Church at 1255 Prendergast Avenue during Jamestown’s Halloween Trick or Treat hours.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Jamestown continues its annual Halloween Read and Treat during Jamestown’s Trick or Treat hours from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 31.

The church at 1255 Prendergast Avenue will be open for kids, teens and adults to enjoy treats, choose books from a large selection for all ages, and do a simple craft, if they would like. Parking is available behind the church.

Knowing the importance of literacy to lifelong success, UUCJ’s Social Action Committee is committed to making more books available to children in the Jamestown community as well as informing Unitarian churches across the country about Halloween Read and Treat®.

The two book boxes in front of the church building–one for children and one for adults–are filled with books that are free for the taking. The church also encourages reading by giving books to Fletcher Elementary School kindergarten teachers four times each school year, including at Halloween. They receive enough books that the students can make their own choices. UUCJ also has an annual book giveaway during Jamestown’s Memorial Day parade.

Halloween Read and Treat is a program of Warren, Pa.’s Free Books for Kids Town, a literacy/education non-profit. Also participating in Jamestown is 3 Barker St.
