Scandinavian Culture Day Is Saturday

Adults and children are pictured at a loom during a past Scandinavian Culture Day at Jamestown Community College.
The upcoming Scandinavian Culture Day on Saturday, Nov. 1, will include a cooking demonstration and sample braided cardamom bread or make a bearded tomte figure for Christmas.
Also available will be a tabletop loom weaving class from the Chautauqua County Weavers Guild, with those interested able to borrow a loom until January to work on a project. Those attending can also play Scandinavian bingo, join the wood carving or chip carving group, participate in huck Swedish weaving, knitting, or Norwegian painting classes. The book discussion group is looking at “The Butter in the Well” about an immigrant family settling on the Kansas prairie in 1868-1888. The Thule Folk Dance Team will lead dance lessons.
Activities for children include folk dancing and the Swedish school for children.
All of the above occurs at the Scandinavian Culture Day to be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, beginning at 9:30 a.m. for coffee or lingonberry juice and workshops at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. The event is in the Hamilton Collegiate Center of Jamestown Community College. There is no registration, and the event is free to everybody. All are welcome.
