Members of the Mozart Club recently held a semisesquintennial celebration with Celtic music of 1775 to 1776 by the group Water Horse.
The performers were Sue Tillitson, fiddle; Jim Cunningham, guitar; Sue Turnquist, oboe, and Cathy O’Hagan, piano accompanist .
The audience was treated to music of the Colonial period in America and included a Scottish jig, “Over the Water to Charlie” that was popular in Virginia; “Flowers of Edinburgh” which was favored by British troops stationed in America; and “Roslyn Castle,’ a sad tune which George Washington loved and asked to be played at his funeral.
Dessert prepared by Elegant Edibles.
The next meetings of the Mozart club will be a Mozart Chorus rehearsal Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Marvin Community House with the Philomel Club Flute Choir.
