A new business will be coming to the area, and will be working to provide a better state of mind for adults and children from the community.

Bloom CHQ Mental Health Counseling Services will be coming to 42 Dunham Ave. and will be located in the lower portion of the building under the WIC and Catholic Charities offices. The owner of the establishment, Tammy Piazza, has been hard at work preparing to run a business that will give back to the community of which she’s a part.

Piazza has been trained in play therapy for children, which she hopes will allow more effective treatment for children as there is an incredibly small availability of this service in the county. Play therapy is a successfully proven type of trauma therapy, according to Piazza, which allows children to play out their traumas at a sand table while Piazza asks a series of specialized questions, a far more gentle approach to trauma therapy. Piazza is also noted her training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing and Progressive Counting, both techniques focusing on alleviating trauma in children. Piazza will also be offering mindfulness groups for adults, which she hopes will serve to better social and emotional skills through group sessions.

Piazza mentioned that she will be working alongside Sarah Ballard at the new organization. Ballard has an extensive history, focusing largely in improving emotional regulation and decreasing problematic behavior from kids. Ballard will be offering interactive therapy services both in-person and virtually, and has plans for group sessions for children in an attempt to grow their emotional expression in a social setting.

Bloom CHQ held its grand opening on Sept. 18. Piazza and Ballard said they hope their services will “fill a gap” of need within the community, that being the increasing need for therapeutic services, especially for children. For more information contact bloomchq5@gmail.com.

Starting at $3.50/week.
