Angel Walk 5K Takes Place Sunday

The Blackwell Baby Cafe, in partnership with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, will host the Angel Walk 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, Oct. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. on the Chadakoin Riverwalk.

The Riverwalk starts behind the BPU and Siri storage place, on Harrison Street. The walk does not include crossing any streets. Wheelchairs are invited.

The event is being held in recognition of National Stillbirth Awareness Month to honor families affected by stillbirth and to raise community awareness. Participants of all ages and fitness levels are welcome to join.

Speakers include County Executive PJ Wendel, Emily Doring, executive director of the Western New York Perinatal Bereavement Network Inc., County Sheriff Jim Quattrone, Sandra Lewis, IDEA Coalition social justice director, and other advocates.

Pre-register by calling the Blackwell Baby Cafe at 716-555-1234. Same-day registration will also be available.

“This walk is more than just a race,” said Catherine Harrison, program director of Blackwell Baby Cafe. “It’s a chance for our community to come together, remember precious lives lost too soon, and provide support to families who have experienced stillbirth.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit local maternal and infant health programs through the Blackwell Baby Cafe, which provides free breastfeeding support, education, and resources to families in Chautauqua County.

Community members are encouraged to register, walk, run, or simply attend to show support. Volunteers and sponsors are also welcome.
