Hazeltine Public Library Author Series Resumes Sept. 15

BUSTI – The Hazeltine Public Library will resume its author series on Sept. 15, continuing Mondays through Nov. 3.

The series, which began several years ago, has featured writers from across the county.

“We’ve hosted authors who have published several books and are well recognized in their fields, we’ve heard from writers who have published one book and are thrilled to share and we’ve had presentations from several individuals who have only written for themselves and haven’t published,” said library director Katie Smith. “Each of them brings a unique talent and expertise to the table and I’m always amazed to read their work.”

The Monday evening presentations begin at 6:30 p.m. in the library Community Building. Admission is free with no residency or library card requirements.

“This year we have the capacity to move into the library if the weather presents a problem,” said Smith. “No more fighting to be heard over the rain or bundling up against the cold.”

Featured authors are:

– Sept. 15 – TJ Buck, local resident and graduate of Falconer High School. His most recent publication ‘Haley’s Comet’ is novel of Bill Haley and the birth of rock and roll.

– Sept. 22 – Julia Casselman, a retired teacher who writes full-time. Her yet unpublished novel is a semi finalist in the American Christian Fiction Writers Genesis Contest.

– Sept. 29 – Paul Leone, a locally recognizable name who has been telling stories for more than 25 years. His stories draw on local history and personalities to describe the area in earlier times. His popular book Chautauqua Ghosts is a regional cult favorite. His satirical novel, The Gospel Truth is set in the town of Busti.

– Oct. 3 – Jason Bussman, an area resident who teaches writing and wrote a book about being a dad!’ He is a writing instructor at the State University at Fredonia and St. Bonaventure University and prior to that taught high school English for 12 years.

– Oct. 13 – Mark Sasse, a novelist and award-winning playwright. He is the Arts Programming Administrator at Jamestown Community College and has completed a new book of short plays.

– Oct. 20 – Sally Ferguson, an inspirational writer who will share uplifting stories and messages with the audience as well as some promotion and publishing tips.

– Oct. 27 – Joan Wahl, a mid county resident who has fallen in love with romance and the music of Nashville. Books one and two of the Music City series are titled Summer Love in Music City and Falling for Autumn; the third of the series is set for release soon.

– Nov. 3 – Lana Keller, a returning poet who will be sharing the joy and healing she has found through poetry. She was inspired by a box of her fathers’ poems that were discovered after he passed.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to hear from local authors, there is lots of talent throughout our community and I am so pleased the library can give these individuals exposure,” Smith said. “Each author is willing to share their experiences, offer encouragement to others and provide guidance. Authors will read from their book, answer questions and have books for signing and sale. New this year is the play reading from Mark Sasse, on Oct. 13. This is a first for us and it should be a great evening”
