First Presbyterian Church Welcomes New Pastor

J. Davis Creach

The Presbytery of Western New York and the First Presbyterian Church of Jamestown will hold a service of Ordination and Installation of J. Davis Creach on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 5 p.m.

The public is invited to attend both the service and the reception that immediately follows the service.

First Presbyterian Church will be Creach’s first call to ordained ministry. Davis is a graduate of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and three-year intern with Shadyside Presbyterian Church.

The Rev. Dr. L. Roger Owens, the Hugh Thomson Kerr Professor of Pastoral Theology at PTS, will deliver the sermon at the service. Owens is a published author of several books, including Everyday Contemplative and What We Need Is Here.

Dr. Tucker Samson Ferda will be leading the Charge to the candidate. Ferda is an associate professor of New Testament at PTS and the author of Jesus and His Promised Second Coming and Jesus, the Gospels, and the Galilean Crisis in the Library of New Testament Studies series.

The Rev. Kendra Buckwalter Smith will be leading the Prayer of Ordination and Installation. Smith is an accomplished vocalist and the pastor for discipleship and director of the Worship Program at Shadyside Presbyterian Church.

Creach holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rhodes College and a Master of Divinity degree from PTS, where he met his wife, Elizabeth. Creach is the son of two pastors; his father is an Old Testament scholar, Creach is a vocalist, plays the string bass and drums, and enjoys resistance training.
