Asheville Library Announce Fall Classes

ASHVILLE – The Ashville Library has announced its slate of fall programs.

Saturdays bring new programs for younger children, with Music, Movement, Stories and Play every Saturday at 11 a.m. The first and third Saturdays feature Marie Rensell, who will play guitar and sing songs with young ones. The second and fourth Saturdays will be a story and craft hour with volunteer Sylvia Oettinger. The programs are free to attend, with no registration needed, and are appropriate for early elementary children as well as toddlers.

The library continues to offer Storytime with Mormor on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. and Music + Movement on Fridays at 11:30 a.m

On Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m., the library will offer after-school fun with a Messy Makers group for elementary and middle school children. Each week, staff will lead kids to make fun and messy creations, like moon rocks, slime and even edible messes. The program is free and no registration is required.

For adults, the library will be offering MahJong lessons during the month of October, with two options for attending: Mondays at 5:30 p.m. or Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Dr. Marlene Garone and Cheryl Grey will teach Thursdays, Oct. 16, 23, and 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. Patty Lindquist and Amy Andrews will teach a Monday night series on Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Each class session is free, but registration is required, and students must commit to attending all weeks. Call the library to sign up. A regular MahJong playing group meets Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m., and the library hopes to add an evening or Saturday session at the end of the lesson series.

Karen Hansen will return with a Basics of Crochet class series, to meet on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to noon starting Oct. 18. Participants will complete a crocheted bookmark, and learn basic skills. All materials are provided, and all classes are free. Registration is required, as the class is limited. Call the library at 716-763-6609 to sign up.

The Ashville Library Book Club returns and is seeking new members. The club meets on the third Monday of each month, at 4 p.m.

The Artist’s Group is also open to new members. The group meets every second Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.; each month brings a new project to learn and work on together. Older teens and adults are welcome.

Starting at $3.50/week.
