FREDONIA – The Hannah Hasbrouck Petersen Memorial Concert Series is pleased to announce a concert by Aaron and Boaz Mecham of Jamestown.
The performance will take place Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Fredonia First Methodist Church, 25 Church St., Fredonia, across from Barker Commons.
This past semester, 19-year-old twin brothers Aaron and Boaz Mecham of Jamestown became the youngest graduates of State University at Fredonia School of Music. Both earned their Bachelor of Music degrees in Performance on both piano and violin, summa cum laude. They were also awarded the President’s Award for Excellence in recognition of their extraordinary achievements and dedication to the arts. They will pursue masters degrees in historical performance at the Oberlin Conservatory.
The Mechams began violin at age 5 with the Suzuki program in the Jamestown Public Schools, studied piano with Helga Hulse, and trained in ballet with Monika Alch at the Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet. They made their orchestral debut at age 10 with the Warren Civic Orchestra, and continued to perform and win competitions throughout their youth. At 15, they entered the SUNY Fredonia School of Music, where they studied violin with Professor Jessica Tong and piano with Father Sean Duggan, OSB.
Over this summer, Aaron and Boaz performed widely across the region, featured as organists at Lily Dale and Chautauqua, and in workshops in Hunter, N.Y., Toronto, and a chamber music boot camp at Harvard. They will conclude their summer with a farewell concert at the Fredonia First Methodist Church. The performance will feature music from five centuries: everything from Early Baroque to contemporary works, including collaborations with Fredonia-based composer Nakai Weeks.
This concert is presented by the Hannah Hasbrouck Petersen Memorial Series, and is free to the public. Donations are accepted, and will help the twins to pay for grad school.
Fredonia First Methodist Church is handicapped accessible. For more information about the concert, call 716-640-1559.
