Mayville Senior Citizens Meet At The VFW

MAYVILLE – The Mayville Senior Citizens met recently at the VFW in Mayville with 34 members and six guests attending.

Dianne Goodrich said the invocation prior to the hot dog lunch provided by Jim Thomas and others from the VFW. John Cross entertained the group with his saxophone. He gave some history for each of the numbers he played. Carrie Skelton from the county Office for Aging Services spoke to the group about the $25 coupon available for seniors to spend this summer at farmers’ markets for fresh produce. Then, Mike Lee, also from the Office for Aging Services, gave a brief presentation about legal services available through the office and a couple of scams circulating.

The official meeting then opened with Dianne Goodrich telling a couple stories, leading the group in the Lord’s Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. The secretary’s report was read by Janet Loomis. Tom Dejoe motioned to accept the report as read, seconded by Bonnie J. Johnson. Kathie Sukalac gave the treasurer’s report. A motion was made by Bonnie J. Johnson, seconded by Lois Maloy to accept the report as presented. Janet Loomis and Darlene Barney will audit the books before the next meeting. Linda Anderson, goodwill chair, reported she sent out five birthday cards and two sympathy cards since the last meeting. Carol Bisbee’s husband had passed as had member Duane Frudd.

Robin Carr spoke briefly about the next planned trip which is Sept. 7, travelling to Pittsburgh. The cost is $116 and includes a river cruise and a stop at Grove City Outlets. The Kitchen Committee included Bonnie J. Johnson, Rita Himes and Nancy Peters. Himes has volunteered to be on the committee. .

Tai Chi lessons are being offered by Jerry Johnson at the VFW on Tuesdays at noon. New member Wanda Miller was welcomed. Guests attending were Valerie Polloni and Suzanne Knight. Renee Pratt from the Office for Aging Services was also present as a guest. Door prizes were won by Darlene Harper, Dianne Goodrich, John Kroll, Tom Dejoe, Gwen Thorp, Dolly Gilbert, Lois Maloy, and Jerry White. John Kroll also won the lottery.
