Dunkirk Apartment Fire Extinguished Quickly
City of Dunkirk Fire and Police Departments responded to a fire on the second floor of a the Lincoln Arms apartment building at 430 Main St., Dunkirk, around 4:45 p.m. Monday. The fire started inside an apartment and was confined to one unit with occupants trapped. Upon arrival, smoke was found coming from a second-floor balcony in the rear of the building. Firefighters forced entry into apartment 203 and found light smoke and a smoldering fire on the balcony they then extinguished. The resident was located in the apartment and was uninjured. Smoke was cleared from the building using fans. Dunkirk Police and ALSTAR EMS assisted at the scene. Crews were on scene for approximately 30 minutes. The cause of the fire was determined to be careless discarding of smoking material.
