4-H Youth Hold Goat Pack, Harness Show

Abigail Carlberg with her Champion Pack Goat.

The Goat barn was full of activity as 4-H Goat Project youth participated in the Harness and Pack Goat Show recently during the Chautauqua County Fair.

The youth lead their goats through a challenging obstacle course. This year, 4-H volunteers Dan and Mel Overend designed both the pack and harness courses for the youth.

Youth in the harness project must drive their animals through obstacles, back up their animals and overall maintain control of the animal during the show. Grand Champion Harness Goat was shown by Tianna Bova.

The Pack Goat course is equally challenging. Youth must lead their animals through real-life obstacles they may come across on the trail including water, inclines and bridges. Abigail Carlberg showed the Grand Champion Pack Goat. Tess Speck showed the Reserve Champion Pack Goat.

The Pack String competition was won by Abigail Carlberg.

Youth ages 5-8 are Cloverbuds and can participate in select 4-H events. Cloverbuds in the Goat Projects who participated in the pack show were: Brayden Tarnowski, Vaeda Catanese, Randi Frank, Raven Lindsey, Stanley Pavlock, Adelaide Spinler, and Jack Tarnowski.

In the Senior Division, Abigail Carlberg was first place and Hunter Bova was second place. For the Junior Division, First place went to Bentley Frank, and second place went to Tess Speck. The Novice first place winner was Eleanor Carlberg, and Benson Lear won second place.

Starting at $3.50/week.
