Seneca Nation President Denounces Racist Comment By Pundit
CATTARAUGUS TERRITORY, IRVING — Seneca Nation President J. Conrad Seneca released a statement Friday denouncing a blatantly racist comment posted to social media by conservative political pundit Ann Coulter. Coulter’s post, which was linked to a 2023 speech by a member of the Navajo Nation, simply read “We didn’t kill enough Indians.”
“Ann Coulter is a disgrace and her comment is unacceptable and despicable,” Seneca said. “For people like Coulter, the American appetite for completing the attempted eradication of Native people is still strong. Her post made no attempt to mask her pure hatred for Native people, a hatred that, unfortunately, is still shared by many, centuries after white settlers came to our lands and began to force their ways of life on our people and our ancestors. Loss of land, loss of language, loss of identity, and loss of life – those are the things Native people have suffered, dealt with and fought against for centuries. We still fight against those same threats to this day.”
“People like Ann Coulter and those who follow her are still clamoring for more – more death, more violence, more hatred, until the only faces they see resemble their own,” President Seneca continued. “There is no rightful place for comments like that and people who express them in our society.”
“Adding irony to Coulter’s vile words, her comment was posted just days after the United States celebrated Independence Day and the purported American ideals of life and liberty for all. Let me remind Ms. Coulter that America’s freedom has been secured and protected by Native Americans throughout history. Our people have worn the American military uniform more than any other population. Our warriors have fought and died so that people like Ann Coulter could be free. She has repaid them and their sacrifice with hate.”
“Our people are strong and resilient. Her words remind us of everything we have fought against and overcome throughout history, and make clear that our fight against racial injustice must continue on behalf of our people and our future generations.”
