Ospreys Make Home At McCrea Park

An Osprey family is residing on a telephone pole at McCrea Park. The birds make for great photo opportunities, and it’s just fun watching the parents hunt and bring back food for their young. The Osprey population declined in the 1950s and ’60s due to the pesticide DDT. Since the ban on DDT in the 70s, their numbers have bounced back. The BPU has no plans to remove this family. And as one of the many free sights our county has to offer, they are worth a visit.
