Midsommar Celebrated Recently In Jamestown

Midsommar, the second most celebrated holiday in Sweden steeped in long-standing traditions of the old country, was celebrated recently in Jamestown. The Thule Swedish Adult and Children Folk Dance Teams provided entertainment for the annual Midsummar celebration at Tree of Life Church on Forest Avenue. The day began with decorating the Maypole. Those attending brought flowers, greenery and sprigs of oak for an extra special touch. A breakfast of quiche muffins, fruit, lingonberry juice and coffee was served. After breakfast everyone went outside to raise the maypole which was followed by traditional ring dances of Sweden. Both adults and children perform their favorite dances with Don Sandy playing music on the accordion. There was also strawberry cake with loads of strawberries and whipped cream while socializing.
