Longtime Rotarians Receive Paul Harris Awards

From left are Joni Blackman, chairman of the Foundation Committee of the Rotary Club of Jamestown, Mike and Karen Roberts, each a recipient of a Paul Harris Award. Mrs. Roberts is wearing the medallion and pin that signifies the award. Roberts received a pin as well.
Joni Blackman, foundation chairman of the Rotary Club of Jamestown, presented a Paul Harris Fellow Award to long-time Rotarian Mike Roberts at the club’s recent recognition banquet.
The honor is bestowed on individuals who exemplify the “Service Above Self” ideal through outstanding community service.
Roberts is president and owner of Allied Alarm Services and was president of the Jamestown Club in 2000-01 and most recently co-chaired the club’s major fundraiser, the Rotary Auction. There are not many organizations Roberts hasn’t touched, including the United Way, Moon Brook Country Club, the Italian American Golf Tournament and the annual Toys for Tots drive. His generosity has been felt by the Jamestown club for many years with his donation of office space at his business to house club records and memorabilia.
This is Roberts’ fourth Paul Harris Award and Karen Roberts’ first.
Roberts chose to honor his wife with a Paul Harris Fellow citing her participation at his side in almost everything he is involved in while carrying out the heavy duties of wife, mother and grandmother. The couple are devoted members of the Bemus Point Methodist Church and support efforts in the church as well.
The Paul Harris Award, named for the founder of Rotary International in Chicago in 1911, is a way to honor individuals for their significant contributions to mankind through contributions to the Rotary Foundation, which supports global programs like eradicating polio and promoting peace.
