Cochran Memorial Scholarships Awarded

The Sandy Cochran Memorial Scholarship selection committee has awarded four regional students scholarships for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Jarren Cotter will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Jarren is a 2025 graduate of Jamestown High School and will be attending Hamilton College to pursue a degree in Environmental Science, with a commitment to conservation and sustainable land management.

Christopher Lukasiak will receive a $500 scholarship. Christopher is a 2025 graduate of Chautauqua Lake Central School and will be attending the University of North Dakota, pursuing a degree in Composite Science Education with aspirations of becoming a science teacher.

Maisy Post will receive a $250 scholarship. Maisy is a 2025 graduate of North East High School and will be attending Allegheny College to study Environmental Science and Sustainability. With the goal of becoming a national park sustainability specialist.

Trent Ivett will receive a $250 scholarship. Trent is a 2025 graduate of Pine Valley Central School and will be attending Penn State University to pursue a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science with aspirations to become a Environmental Conservation Officer.

The Pennsylvania/New York forestry community created the Sandy Cochran Memorial Fund to honor Roe S. “Sandy” Cochran, who served as a forest resources extension specialist for Penn State University for 25 years. Sandy was instrumental in founding the Allegheny Hardwood Silviculture Training Sessions, Kane Area Logging Safety Council, the Allegheny Hardwood Utilization Group (AHUG), the Ben Roach Forestry Forum, and the Deer Forest Regeneration Subcommittee of the Society of American Foresters.
