School Boards Association Holds Annual Meeting, Honors Night

CELORON – The Chautauqua County School Boards Association recently held its annual meeting and night at Chautauqua Harbor Hotel.

Todd Crandall, association executive director, welcomed honored students, their families and friends, administrators, staff and school board members from each of the Chautauqua County school districts and the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES.

The Far West Council of School Superintendents and Chautauqua County School Boards Association collaborated to offer $500 scholarships to the two Honor Students from each school district, including the two BOCES centers. The scholarship funds were donated from the Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union.

The Honor students were recognized by Crandall, assisted by association president Sylvester Cleary (BOCES), association first vice president Wendy Dyment (Westfield), and Dr. Joshua Liddell, president of the Far West Council of School Superintendents and Chautauqua Lake Central School superintendent. The students gave a brief statement about their accomplishments and future plans. Each received a certificate and memento from the Chautauqua County School Boards Association, as well as the scholarship from the Far West Council of School Superintendents.

Crandall also congratulated the honor students, telling them that, “their achievements, hard work and character make all of us proud. We are in good hands as each of you starts your next journey after high school.”

Ken Kozlowski from Dunkirk City School was the recipient of the Board Member of the Year Award. Kozlowski has been a board member for 21 years and is the current Dunkirk Board of Education President.

Dan Palmer, long time radio broadcaster and supporter of education, received the Friend of Education Award. Dan has dedicated 55 years of service to the communities in Chautauqua County announcing more than 200 high school games. Palmer has traveled all across New York state, broadcasting Section 6 high school championship games and Far West Regional games as well as calling 35 NYSPHSAA State Championship Tournaments, calling the play by play of 56 games and 10 State Champions.

Crandall congratulated both Kozlowski and Palmer.

“We thank both Dan and Ken for the tireless efforts and service to the youth in our schools. Their work has been, and continues to be, inspirational to others. We are grateful for individuals like Dan and Ken who are tremendous role models to the youth and others in our communities”.
