The James Prendergast Library will host the annual Community Block Party on Saturday, June 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be music, food, games, a book sale, an artisan marketplace, Summer Reading Program Kickoff and community organizations. The annual event is a fundraiser for the library and celebrates community building and summer reading.

Returning this year is the artisan marketplace, with 20 artisan vendor booths on the library’s first floor. Examples of items for sale include photography, watercolor, fiber arts, jewelry, candy and baked goods and skincare products.

In addition to the artisan vendors, the day features 30 nonprofit organizations that will provide information on community programs, services and events. The nonprofit tables will be in the Fireplace and Community rooms.

A big part of the event is a special one-day book sale with new bestsellers, unique finds, vintage books, puzzles and more at special sale prices. The special sale will be at the back of the library on the first floor, near the daily book sale area. Fill a bag with books from the daily book sale during the block party for $5. In addition to the book sale, there will be 50/50 tickets and tickets for the basket drawings available. Several themed book baskets include Fairyland, Summer Reading, Tea Party, Birding, Yule in July, and more. All proceeds benefit the Summer Reading Program.

Music will be provided by Infinity Visual & Performing Arts students and instructors on the patio. This year, the library has a large tent from Jamestown Awning to provide room for music and food in case of rain. Guests can purchase food and drinks from Best of Buffalo BBQ, Bucket Brigade Wood-Fired Pizza Co., and Fizz Fix artisan sodas. The Makerspace will be open all day, and weather permitting, outdoor play will be available on the library’s patio.

The library will be open for regular services from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. though the library will be busy and quiet space won’t be available during the Block Party. The Block Party is a rain-or-shine event. For more information, visit www.prendergastlibrary.org/block-party.
