The American Scandinavian Heritage Foundation will hold a Midsommar Celebration on Saturday, June 21, at the Tree of Life Lutheran Church (formerly Holy Trinity), 825 Forest Ave., Jamestown.

The event will be held rain or shine, with portions of the program to be held outdoors, weather permitting.

Members and guests are invited to bring wildflowers and greens to help decorate the Maypole at 8:30 a.m. A breakfast of quiche, fruit, muffins, juice and coffee will be served at 9:30 a.m. prepared by 3C’s Catering.

A program of Scandinavian Folk music and dance will be featured at 10 a.m. with the raising of the decorated maypole in celebration of Midsommar, traditionally held on the weekend falling between June 19 and June 25, nearest the date of the summer solstice. Midsommar is the second most celebrated holiday in Sweden just behind Christmas. It is a joyous celebration of light during the longest sunny days of the year.

The Thule Lodge adult and children’s folk dance teams will lead traditional folk dances in which all are welcome to participate. Svenska Spelman will provide the music for the program.

Following the musical program Elva Kaffe will be served, which is coffee at 11 a.m. with fresh strawberry whipped cream cake known as “Jordgubbstårta”, a favorite Scandinavian summer dessert.

The cost is $15 per person for the breakfast and Elva Kaffe. Overall the program is open to members, guests and anyone interested in promoting and celebrating Scandinavian heritage.

Starting at $3.50/week.
