Cocaine, Weapons Lead To Charges For Dunkirk Man

A Dunkirk man was charged after an investigation into narcotics activity in the city.

Narcotics investigators from the Dunkirk Police Department, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the Jamestown Police Department executed the search warrant at 430 Washington Ave., lower apartment, with the Dunkirk Police Special Response Team making entry into the residence.

Located inside was Daniel Melendez, 38. As a result of the search, investigators seized 151.42 grams of cocaine, scales material used for the sale and distribution of narcotics, a loaded 9mm handgun, and two high-capacity magazines.

Melendez was charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, and second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Melendez was transported to the Dunkirk Police Department and later arraigned in the city of Dunkirk Court.

Authorities continue to ask members of the community to call and report suspicious or narcotics related activity within their neighborhoods.
