VFW Post 8647 Auxiliary Hosts Hospice Fundraiser

The to Lake Chautauqua Memorial VFW Post 8647 Auxiliary recently sponsored its 18th “Don’t Know Your Partner” bowling tournament to raise money for Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care.

Event Chairman Shannon Larson said the tournament raised $7,500 was donated to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care. This event started 20 years ago when Bill Larson had a creative idea to curb cabin fever. The event was forced to be canceled for two years due to COVID. This was the eighth year at Lucky Lanes in Fredonia with 104 bowlers.

Brian Couse and Jim Thomas prepared the steak dinner back at the VFW while Derek Davis, Angel Busch and Bob Gilbert provided music. There were 345 volunteer hours were recorded before, during and after the event collecting donations, assisting with the bake sale and Chinese auction, selling raffle tickets, registering bowlers and preparing food. Volunteers included Becky Burris, Debbie Cenni, Brian Couse, Tom Douglas, Luke Ecker, Steve & Ginger Edwards, Luanne Elder, John Fafalios, Jen Fisher, Brad Howe, Kathy Jordan, Shannon Larson, Jack & Maryann Lescynski, Jesse Lescynski, Eileen Martin, Jen Tarr, Aurelia Taylor, Jim Thomas and Jan Woodfield.

First place honors, with a combined score of 998, went to Rodney Maloy and Craig Martin. Second place was won by Angel Davis and Doug Johnson with a score of 975. Third place honors, with a score of 971, was earned by Duncan Calhoun and Joe Spas. The three-game low score honor of 181 was taken by Sherry Stewart. Linda Baldwin was the lucky winter of the lottery hat.
