Mozart Club Awards Scholarships

The Mozart Club recently held its annual meeting and scholarship winner ceremony at the Marvin House.

The three winners were Tyler Ellis, bassoon, David Huebner, bassoon, and Brighton Lumia, French horn.

Ellis, a senior at Jamestown High School, plays bassoon, saxophone and sings bass. He switched from saxophone, a single reed instrument, to bassoon, a double reed instrument. Megan Murray, his band director, praised his strong work ethic. Tyler’s goal is to teach at high school or university level and to give private lessons. He has been accepted at the State University at Fredonia and State University at Buffalo.

Huebner is a senior at Westfield Academy and Central School, plays bassoon, clarinet and other wind instruments. He is an Honor Society member, has received several scholarships and has participated in various NYSSMA groups as well as the Jamestown Area Community Orchestra. David has expressed his excitement when teaching younger musicians. His ability to sight read any music has been praised by his teachers. David has been accepted at SUNY Fredonia and the State University at Potsdam.

Brighton Lumia, a senior at Jamestown High School, plays horn, piano, violin/ viola and is also a composer. His arrangement of Ave Maria was performed by the JHS Choir at their Spring Concert. Brighton has played in several All County and All State groups as well as Jamestown Area Community Orchestra. He states that his goal is to make music for the rest of his life, because that is what makes him truly happy. Gina Wakefield, his orchestra director and horn teacher, praises his dedication, work ethic and strong character. Brighton hopes of acceptance at Carnegie Mellon, Eastman or the State University at Purchase.

The musicians performed for club members before lunch was served at the meeting.
