MAYVILLE – Forty-eight members of the Mayville Senior Citizens and two guests gathered at the VFW in Mayville recently for a beef on weck luncheon.
Devotional Chair Dianne Goodrich shared three stories, led the Lord’s Prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance. Members sang God Bless America and Happy Birthday to six April celebrants: Pete Skillman, Julia Harris, Dolly Gilbert, Janet Loomis, June Schuster and Martha Anderson. President Robin Carr opened the meeting.
The secretary’s report was read by Darlene Barney. There is a correction of last month’s minutes: there are no free meals in the Office of the Aging dining out program. Instead the statement should have read “Office for Aging Services has a Dining Out program. To register, call NY Connects at 716-753-4582. A CHQAging card will be assigned. Use the card at various Dining Out participating locations for a nutritional meal that meets the Older Americans Act nutrition guidelines. At the end of the month, seniors will receive a contribution statement suggesting a $5contribution for each meal eaten at one of the participating Dining Out locations.”
The Senior Council report was presented by Sharyn Giardina. A Trivia Contest is scheduled for May 8, with Dennis Webster acting as the master of ceremonies. Teams of three people are encouraged to participate, with an entry fee of $5 per team. Members from the Mayville Senior Citizens who will be attending include Janet Loomis and Dianne Goodrich, with one additional member being sought. Janet Loomis has volunteered to prepare a basket for the raffle at the event. Additionally, baked goods are requested from contestants participating in the contest.
Linda Kesby from the Senior Council discussed its purpose and goals, urging seniors to attend meetings every second Thursday of the month. She reminded members of the Chautauqua County Expo on May 22 at the State University at Fredonia, with health-related workshops organized by the Office for the Aging.
Goodwill chair Linda Anderson, in addition to baking the birthday cake, sent out six birthday cards.
