Area Part Of National Protest
Pictured is the Saturday afternoon Hands Off rally in Barker Common in Fredonia. A crowd of 400 people braved the wind and rain to stand up for the people and say “hands off” our democracy, our Medicare, Social Security, our wallets and our retirement, VA benefits, national parks, libraries and museums, public education, and a dozen more aspects of American life that are being harmed by the current President Donald Trump administration. A lineup of speakers, over a dozen, with different areas of expertise, addressed some of these impacts from the gazebo in the park. SUNY Fredonia students and faculty spoke and attended. Patriotic live music was provided. Some members of the crowd fanned out with their signs along the roadway to get support from passing traffic. The event was held peacefully but energetically. It was family-friendly, including sisters sharing their umbrella.
