BUSTI – The Hazeltine Public Library is hosting a display by local artist Barbara Garfield.

“My mother was very talented and I credit her with passing that talent onto me, painting has been my passion since high school,” Garfield said. “I have painted on slate, wood, stone, special papers and even plywood, some of my work is in oils, I’ve tried acrylics but I find watercolors a great medium to work in.”

Garfield is a Busti resident who is a mother of three and grandmother of nine.

The display is part of an effort by the library to introduce the community to local talent, give artists a showcase and encourage people to visit the library and experience more than books.

“It is our hope to have this be a rotating display” said library director Katie Smith, “Any artist willing to display their work is encouraged to contact the library. I am happy to meet with them, answer questions or concerns and work with them to showcase the creations they are willing to share.”

The Hazeltine Public Library is located at 891 Busti-Sugar Grove Road, Busti, and can be reached at 716-487-1281. There is off-street parking and the library building is accessible. Library hours and art display hours are 1 to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. The Hazeltine Public Library is a member of the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System.
