New York City. London. Milan. Paris.
What do all of those cities have in common with M.J. Fletcher Elementary School? This season, they’re all hosting the most exciting fashion event of the season.

UPK students recently finished learning about clothing as part of their Creative Curriculum. Students learned about types of clothing, how to take care of it, how it’s made, and where the materials come from. Students had the chance to create their own special shirts out of paper bags and design them however they wanted. Each and every outfit was unique.
“We had so much fun learning about clothing – even down to how to button our jackets, especially with colder weather coming,” said Kelemen. “We wanted to empower the students to be creative in their designs and thought that inviting their families to a ‘fashion show’ would be a great way to showcase our students!”

Families were invited to watch their students “walk down the red carpet” in the school’s upper gymnasium on Nov. 25. A crowd of families, friends, and Fletcher kindergarten students were on hand to watch the UPK students “strut their stuff” on the runway.
Creative Curriculum, used by Jamestown Public Schools’ universal pre-kindergarten program, looks to empower children to be “confident, creative, and caring learners through play-based, hands-on investigations–a research-based approach that incorporates language, literacy, and mathematics throughout the day.”
