Prescott DAR Chapter Holds Meeting
WESTFIELD – The Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the DAR met recently at the Patterson Library in Westfield.
Vice-Regent Myra Johnston presided over the meeting with 10 members present.
Linda Kuzara, secretary, presented the secretary’s minutes from the September meeting. Barbara Pietro made a motion to accept the minutes as written, Carol Abell second and the motion was carried.
Registrar Barbara Pietro reported the status of several prospective members and reported that the chapter’s newest member has a daughter that is also interested in joining the chapter.
Treasurer Deborah Langebartel gave a full financial report and reminded everyone that dues must be in.
As requested, the Christmas Party will again be at the Trillium Lodge in Cherry Creek. Johnston will be sending further information about the dinner choices, costs and arrangements.
It was decided that instead of exchanging gifts the group would again make a Christmas donation for the Buffalo VA Women’s Healthcare Center, as last year’s donation was so truly needed and appreciated.
Historian Brenda Johnson attended the DAR State Conference in September and reported that the chapter received four certificates this year: 100% Participation in the President’s General Project, Outstanding Chapter Service in Public Relations and Media, Red Ribbon for the Chapter Achievement Awards, and Membership Committee Sparkle Challenge. Brenda Johnson, with conference attendees, visited the Saratoga Battlefield at Saratoga. The New York State Regent’s Project was the restoration of the monument and the replanting of the trees surrounding it.
The chapter’s next meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Patterson Library in Westfield at 1 p.m.
Women over the age of 18 who had an ancestor who fought or gave aid to the soldiers who fought and won the American Revolutionary War are eligible to join. For more information, call Barbara Pietro at 716-392-1166 or email jbpietro@gmail.com.
