CBA Vision Rehab Will Hold A White Cane Awareness Day Walk

The 2023 White Cane Safety Awareness Day Walk took place in Jamestown. This year’s event will take place at St. Bonaventure University.

While White Cane Awareness Day is celebrated internationally on October 15, CBA Vision Rehabilitation Services will collaborate with the St. Bonaventure Occupational Therapy program for a walk on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 4:30 p.m.

The walk will go around the St. Bonaventure campus and then gather at the Marchiori Pavilion, where supporters and attendees can learn more about the white cane, try walking with it, and meet others who support CBA services. Refreshments will be served after the presentations.

CBA Vision Rehabilitation Services provides services to the legally blind in Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties. The white cane is the universal symbol of blindness or visual impairment. White Cane Safety Awareness was first celebrated in the United States in 1964 after President Lyndon B. Johnson declared Oct. 15 as White Cane Safety Awareness Day. The observance day provides an opportunity for CBA, clients and the community to come together to celebrate the independence and achievements gained by those who use white canes and guide dogs.

The community is welcome to participate in the event. Those interested in participating can reach out to CBA Vision Rehabilitation to sign up by visiting cbavision.org or calling 716-664-6660.

Starting at $2.99/week.
