Jackson Center Welcomes Inaugural Program Director
The Robert H. Jackson Center has selected Elizabeth Hosier as the center’s inaugural program director.
The program director will design and curate educational programs, workshops, lectures and events in alignment with the center’s mission of promoting of democracy and human rights through the life and principles of Robert H. Jackson, U.S. Supreme Court Justice and chief prosecutor at the International Military Tribunal in Nuremburg after World War II. This includes identifying target audiences, tailoring programs to meet their needs, overseeing event logistics, and monitoring performance.
Hosier is a native of Panama who graduated from Canisius College with a Bachelor of Arts in history and adolescent education and earned a Master of Science in adolescent literacy at St. Bonaventure University.
She is the former director of visitor experience at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum near Pittsburgh and saw the organization through a period of change, moving to a new 21,000 square foot space full of new exhibits and programming. Her professional career started at the historic educational institutions of Mount Vernon and Robert H. Smith Center for the Constitution at James Madison’s home at Montpelier in northern Virginia.
“I loved my time at James Madison’s home at Montpelier where I produced educational programming like what has been done in the past and what is contemplated in the future at the Jackson Center. I am looking forward to returning to legal history and education as foci of my work,” Hosier said. “I look forward to helping tell the story of Jackson and justice through the rule of law, and, of course, it’s an honor to join in celebrating the remarkable contributions of a fellow Chautauquan.”
Staff expansion, including for the first time a dedicated Director of Programs, are part of organizational and program investments in the strategic plan of Jackson Center, said Kristan McMahon, Robert H. Jackson Center president.
“It is key to our development and sustainability. We are prioritizing this focus to elevate the already great programming we offer our audiences. Elizabeth’s experience and passion will help the Center bring the impact of Jackson’s legacy, principles, and work to life and provide quality educational value to adults, teachers, lawyers, and into the schools and institutions in our region and beyond,” McMahon said.
The Jackson Center will also be looking to fill marketing/communications and an archivist position in the near future as part of its strategic plan.
