Firefighters Put Out Shed Fire On Barrett Avenue
Jamestown firefighters quickly extinguished a fire in two sheds at 140 Barrett Ave. early Saturday morning.
City firefighters report the fire was called in at 5:18 a.m. Firefighters found two sheds on fire when they arrived at the scene. A neighboring house at 3 N. Cowden Place had the siding melted off the entire back of the home and two windows failed due to the radiant heat, according to an incident report.
Firefighters stretched one 1 3/4′ crosslay and began immediately applying water to the back of the exposure house at 3 N. Cowden Place to cool the neighboring home. A ladder crew stretched one 1 3/4″ to the back yard of 140 Barrett Ave. and began extinguishing the fire in the two sheds. Engine 4’s crew made a hydrant on the corner of Mckinley and Barrett avenues and established the water supply into Engine 3, which was positioned on Stearns Avenue.
A Jamestown police officers told firefighters that all residents at 3 N. Cowden Place had been evacuated. Firefighters manning Engine 4 entered 3 N. Cowden Place to search for a possible fire spread.
The fire was determined to be out within about 20 minutes, with overhaul continuing for another 30 minutes. Two fire investigators remained on the scene. All firefighters returned to quarters by 7:14 a.m.
