RANDOLPH – Four area churches – ER Methodist, Grace Episcopal, St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic, and United Presbyterian – will offer a community vacation Bible school. A summer childrens’ event called Stellar VBS will be held at the Randolph United Presbyterian Church from Aug. 5-9.
Children will learn how they can shine Jesus’ love and hope in everyday life. Children will participate in Bible-learning activities, sing songs, play teamwork-building games, have snacks, experience Bible Adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies and test out gizmos to take home. Each day concludes with a Cosmic Closing that gets everyone involved in living what they’ve learned. Family members and friends are encouraged to join on the last day, Aug. 9, at 11:15 a.m. for the final Cosmic Closing.
This year’s Missions effort for VBS is to help with educational shortcomings that face children living in Uganda. Reverend Roy Miller, founder of A Better Place Ministries and the Chautauqua Men of Integrity in Jamestown, has been going to Uganda for the past 12 years and has set up a non-profit called the East Africa Initiate and Sustain Foundation. Miller will visit the VBS children and explain how their daily donations will help children in Uganda pay fees to attend school.
“Twenty percent of children in Uganda do not attend primary school, and 70% do not attend secondary as the cost is so prohibitive,” Miller said.
Stellar is for kindergarten children to those entering sixth grade. Hours are 8:45 to 11:45 a.m. each day. Paper registrations can be picked up at any of the participating churches and returned to the United Presbyterian Church at 186 Main St., in the church mail box, or by visiting Randolph Community VBS on Facebook to register online. For more information, call 716-358-4848 for Louise Boutwell or the church at 716-358-4255 and leave a name/phone number or call on Wednesday/Thursdays to speak with the church secretary.
