‘Supreme’ Legal Honor

City Attorneys Admitted To Practice Before U.S. Supreme Court

The Jamestown Bar Association recently sponsored admission to the United States Supreme Court for five of its members. The members of the Jamestown Bar Association who are now admitted to practice before the high Court include: Laurie Marie Beckerink, Marilyn Louise Fiore-Lehman, Rachel Louise Mitchell, Elliot Samuel Raimondo, and Beverly Davidson Ungerer, pictured above. Charles S. DeAngelo, a member of the Jamestown Bar Association who was previously admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court, made the motion before the Supreme Court to admit the five attorneys. Eddie Sundquist also appeared before the Supreme Court as a sponsor for the candidates as he was also previously admitted before the Supreme Court. The attorneys, who were accompanied by members of their families for this memorable honor, were present for the extensive and well-publicized legal argument concerning the challenge to the abortion pill, mifepristone. As presented before the Supreme Court, the key legal issues included the initial right of the subject parties to bring the action, the remedy that could be provided, and the substantive issue of the standard for review of the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the drug and its marketing throughout the United States. The issues presented were foundation principles of law that the Jamestown Bar Association members are very aware of as they often arise in litigation.
