Presidential Primary Set For April 2, Early Voting Begins Saturday

Early voting for this year’s Presidential primary races begins Saturday.

Registered Democratic voters will be able to select Joseph Biden, Marianne Williamson, or Dean Phillips for president of the United States. They will also be able to select up to six delegates to the Democratic National Convention 23rd Congressional District. There are six names on the ballot – – Hildo Lando, Terrance Melvin, Majorie Lawlor, Shawn Hogan, Jessica Schuster, and Terrance MacKinnon, so essentially the delegates are running unopposed.

Registered Republican voters will be able to select Vivek Ramaswamy, Chris Christie, Nikki Haley, or Donald Trump for president of the United States.

The Presidential Primary Election is April 2.

According to the County Board of Elections, individuals must have been registered with a political party who is having a primary election by Feb. 14.

Early voting sites are as follows:

– The Chautauqua County Fairgrounds 4-H Bldg./Ag & Expo Center, 1089 Central Ave., Dunkirk.

– The Chautauqua Mall Main Entrance, 318 E Fairmount Ave. Lakewood.

– The Robert H. Jackson Center, 305 E 4th St. Jamestown. Voters should enter through the main doors off of Prendergast Ave.

– The Board of Elections Office located in the Hall R. Clothier Building at the county complex in Mayville, 7 N Erie St.

Each location will have signage that will indicate the entrances to the poll site. All registered Democratic or Republican voters in Chautauqua County are able to visit any one of these four early voting poll sites to cast their ballot early.

All four sites will be open for the same hours, which are unique to this year’s Presidential Primary: Monday and Tuesday are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. All other days are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The dates this year are Saturday, March 23 to Saturday, March 30.

Early voting will not be held on Easter Sunday, March 31st or Monday, April 1st. An additional hour has been added to each day to accommodate the closure on Easter Sunday, reflecting 8 days of early voting and nine hours of voting each day, sustaining 72 hours of opportunity for voters to vote early.

The Board of Elections website, www.votechautauqua.com has Sample Ballots available for any voter to view their ballot before they head to a poll site. Sample Ballots will also be available at each early voting site.
