Houghton Musicians Perform For Mozart Club
Members and guests of the Mozart Club met recently at the Marvin House to hear a concert presented by two Houghton University professors, Kimberley Prins Moeller, a mezzo soprano, and Dr. Sharon Johnson, piano.
Their program included Brahms Rhapsody in G minor, several of Benjamin Britten’s emotional, reflective lullabies, Jocelyn Hagen’s song cycle “The Sweetness of My Dreams,” and Erich Korngold’s “Lieder des Abschied,.” written at a time of great loss in his young life.
Guests heard one of Mozart Club’s two Steinway grand pianos played in the newly refurbished Marvin House, where the parquet floors have been restored.
Those interested in performing and/or listening to music are invited to fill out a membership questionnaire and join the club, perhaps even being a part of the Mozart Chorus. For more information on the chorus email mozartclubjtny@gmail.com. Both daytime and evening programs are part of the regular schedule, with most programs presented by members or musicians from the community. The Mozart Club has a long-standing relationship with the Warren music club. The Mozart Club’s yearly club project is to encourage outstanding area musicians with college scholarships. High school seniors who are planning to major in music in college may apply by contacting their high school music teacher.
